The Christmas Tag

I'm trying to get myself back into the swing of writing blog posts and what could be better to kick start my inspiration than a good tag post?! I love writing these! My good friend Steph recently tagged me to complete the Christmas Tag and I just loved reading her answers.... who didn't want a kid-sized Jeep to ride around in when they were little?!

Christmas is one of my most favourite times of the year. Much more so now because making magic for my little girl is just the best feeling ever! This is the first year she properly *gets* the idea of Christmas and it's just amazing! Saaaaanta! He's real once again!

Let's get stuck straight into the questions, shall we?!

1. What is your favourite Christmas film (or films)?

I have so many! For me, one of the best things about the build-up to Christmas is grabbing the TV guide and circling all the movies we want to watch together over the festive period. My favourites are Disney's A Christmas Carol (the one with Jim Carrey) The Muppet Christmas Carol, The Polar Express and obviously Miracle on 34th Street! I'll pretty much watch anything at Christmas though so I'm also quite fond of the cheese-fest Hallmark Christmas movies. Can't beat a bit of Annie Claus is Coming to Town, can you?!

2. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?

Wait, what?! Why is this even a question?! Of course Christmas morning! Santa doesn't even come until everyone is in bed so there's nothing to open, haha!

I've seen the trend of Christmas Eve boxes on the rise over the past few years and honestly, I think it is complete lunacy. I'm not a Grinch in the slightest but do people honestly not get enough stuff at Christmas that they feel they need even more just 24 hours before?! Argh, it's just madness!

3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?

Not specifically. My favourite Christmas memories are the things we've done that have become tradition. For example; Setting off out in the evening of Christmas Day to see everyone's Christmas decorations in the local area. Some people really go to town with their lights and now we go out every year to see them, no matter what the weather is like!

4. Favourite festive foods?

Can I say Christmas dinner? I don't eat turkey any other time of year so it always feels like a real treat. I love a good Brussel sprout. I love pigs in blankets. I also love my mum's trifle and her homemade mince pies lathered in extra thick Bailey's cream which we have in the evening on Christmas day with turkey sandwiches and salad. So good.

Also, I must not forget cheese. All the cheese. Literally we live off cheese boards from Boxing Day until the new year. Good chutneys, great beer and all the pickles you can shake a stick at. Yum!

5. Favourite festive drinks?

Christmas is the only time I succumb to Babycham and so it's the drink that I associate the most with the festive period! I love a good Christmas beer too and I will never say no to a hot chocolate with lashings of Baileys, cream and marshmallows.

6. Favourite Christmas gift?

I don't think that I can pick out just one?! I always love everything that I receive for Christmas. Although saying that, the year I finally got the fleece bedding of my dreams from QVC was definitely a good one! I had been wanting it for years and years and my mum bought it for me! I changed the covers instantly and snuggled down with a huge plate of party food in the evening after a busy Christmas day.... it was bliss!

7. Favourite Christmas scents?

To say how much I love my candles, I'm not a huge fan of the scents you might usually associate with Christmas. I hate baking/cinnamon/cookie scents unless it's the real deal and you're actually baking at home. I love the scent of a real log fire in a country pub kinda thing though! If I'm scenting the home, I like to go with a Christmas rose or a peppermint. Something crisp and fresh.

8. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?

Christmas Eve is my brothers birthday so we usually have a big party in the evening. We usually also go out for breakfast somewhere in the Peak District. Everyone will come along, even the dog!

9. What tops your tree?

A penguin(!). We have a very Disney tree so I'm still on the lookout for something Disney(ish) to stick on the top but we are yet to find something small enough. The toppers at Disney parks are usually absolutely huge so the penguin is going to have to stay for now!

10. As a kid what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?

I always wanted to go to Lapland but that's not exactly a gift, is it?! Definitely something I want to do for kiddo though in the next year or two whilst the magic of Santa is still there!

11. What’s the best part about Christmas for you?

Family, food and good times! Also not working, having my husband home for a week or two and watching more movies and eating more cheese than should be humanly possible.

12. What part did you play in your first Christmas Nativity?

Um, an angel.... I think?!

13. Who do you find most difficult to buy for?

My husband for sure. He's the most minimal, easy going person that ever lived and doesn't ever get the wanties for anything. As he's so easy going though, he's always happy with whatever I get him but still! I love getting him stuff like concert tickets which means we have stuff to look forwards to together throughout the following year.

  1. Ha me and my mum are doing Christmas Eve boxes this year but only because I miss having a stocking since I moved out and we're just expanding on our tradition of giving pj's as a Christmas Eve gift!! It is madness though and I certainly think for children some of the contents of Christmas Eve boxes has been madness!

    1. Ah it's totally fine for adults, I think it's like a double Christmas for some kids I see on the internet though! Like they get everything on Christmas eve and then a whole load more on Christmas day.... I just don't get it?! x
