Things to do with a young child at Bluestone

There are many reasons as to why we love Bluestone. It's a luxury resort that really offers something special when it comes to families. The chance to explore and be active, to reconnect with nature and be together, making memories that last a lifetime.

If you're travelling with a baby or young children, you might be wondering if there is enough to do there so today I wanted to share some of my favourite things to do with a little one at Bluestone! In all honestly, there really is no end to the fun you can have with a child there. From babies to teenagers, Bluestone have it covered when it comes to keeping children busy and happy.

Here are some of my favourite things to do with a young child at Bluestone!

Explore the resort

Bluestone is the perfect place to explore with little ones. Potter down to the village to experience everything on offer, take a walk around the lake, enjoy the nature trail or pull your wellies on to go and explore the 500 acres of woodland that Bluestone has to offer! Have a go at spotting some local wildlife, I guarantee you'll spot everything from tiny insects to hopping bunnies!

If your little one gets tired legs, why not hire a buggy or a bike with a trailer for the duration of your stay? They truly give you the freedom to roam the resort and children find them such a novelty!

The village in the centre of the Bluestone resort contains two outdoor playgrounds (one of these is a brand new playground which opens spring 2017). These are well equipped outdoor spaces with tunnels and slides, swings and wobbly bridges aplenty! The perfect place to spend a while burning off some of that excess energy whilst getting some of that wonderful countryside air!

Swimming at the Blue Lagoon

If you are staying at Bluestone then you'll be given free swimming passes for the duration of your stay. You'll also have access to a daily guest exclusive swim from 9am - 12pm each day. This morning session is the perfect time to take your little ones for a dip as the centre isn't too busy!

The Blue Lagoon is such a wonderful water park for little ones to explore. A subtropical paradise complete with slides and flumes and even a Nippers Cove full of rock pools and fountains, perfect for young children! Family changing rooms are provided and there's also a shop and a couple of cafes.

We love the Blue Lagoon!

The Light Thingy

Until 30th March 2017, Bluestone guests are welcome to enjoy the Light Thingy which is a light show like no other. Pack a torch for your little one and follow the nature trail through a wonderland of magical light displays that include illuminated foxes, giant UV spider webs, a disco snail and tiny fairy houses. In the village you'll also find a gorgeous little light show which takes place every half an hour outside the Knights Tafarn in the village. Such good fun for children and adults alike!

The Adventure Centre

The adventure centre is the perfect place to visit no matter what the weather. It's basically all the fun of the outdoors, indoors! Inside, you'll find a main hall that houses everything from a giant indoor play area that includes ball pools, slides and bridges to a super bouncy castle and an area filled with more Lego than you can shake a stick at.
Also inside the Adventure Centre is the Circus Zone (more on this below), a shop, the Wildwood Cafe, activities and family sessions and much, much more! There's absolutely no way that you'll hear your child complaining of being bored in here, there is just so much to do!

Activities, shows and family sessions

Throughout your stay, you'll find that you are spoilt for choice when it comes to additional activities, family sessions and shows for children of all ages to enjoy. We found that they are super reasonable in terms of price and there really is something for everyone! In the past we have done a few sessions including glorious messy play and this year we absolutely loved the "Buzby Bumbles" session which consisted of story time, dancing, music and treasure hunting! This session was priced at £7, adults go free and altogether it lasted around an hour.

The Circus Zone

The Circus Zone is located upstairs at The Adventure Centre, just by the Wildwood Cafe. It'a a peaceful circus themed haven for children under 5 years old. The room is enclosed and spacious so it's the perfect place for parents to relax whilst little ones burn off some of that energy. This room is also the destination for some of the sessions that Bluestone offer so be sure to check your activity guide for more information!

Explore the local area

Nestled in the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, Bluestone is the perfect base for exploring the local area. There's so much to see including attractions and beaches, there are no end of options for a fun family day out! Our personal favourite 'must do' things in the local area include Tenby which is the most beautiful walled seaside town complete with pastel coloured houses and stunning beaches. Our family also love Saundersfoot and Manorbier but there really is no shortage of gorgeous beaches in the local area!

In terms of attractions, you can't beat Folly Farm which is just the most amazing day out for little ones! Not just a farm, this attraction has multiple play areas, a zoo complete with rhinos and lions and an enormous indoor fairground! I have written about it a few times before so take a look here and here for more information.

Other attractions in the area include Oakwood theme park (literally right next to Bluestone) and Manor Wildlife Park... both of these offer brilliant days out for families.

Dining experiences

Finally, let's talk about dining at Bluestone. I love taking a break from doing the dishes on holiday and it's lovely to see that Bluestone really think about families when it comes to eating out.
There are dining shows such as The Wonderland Dinner Party or the Lost Toys breakfast show or the opportunity to toast marshmallows or make smores by an open fire at Camp Smokey. In the regular cafes and restaurants you'll find highchairs are provided along with colouring in sheets and crayons. We also loved that the childrens menus were fairly priced and offer a good range of food, not just the standard nuggets/burger/pizza and chips (though these are available too and admittedly do go down well with kiddo!).

Take a look at my recent blog post on my top dining experiences at Bluestone for more information!
