I've had a few weeks away from all things blog related but now i'm back, i'm catching up on a few posts that I have been wanting to write for a while! First up, I wanted to share a wonderful family day out that we had at the end of October over at Gulliver's Kingdom in Matlock Bath.
Now, you might remember that we visited Gulliver's Kingdom very recently for a preview of their Christmas season (you can read that post here!) and we had such a good time that we couldn't wait to go back and explore the park further. There is so much for children to see and do there that it is quite hard to fit it all into one day!
The purpose of our visit this time was to see the Fireworks Bonanza in the evening which concluded a spooky fun filled week of activities and entertainment at Gulliver's Kingdom. We would be away on holiday for Bonfire Night this year so this was our chance to catch some proper fireworks before we went away.
So, wrapped up warm and off out early, we arrived in Matlock Bath ready for another day at Gulliver's Kingdom!
It was a mighty cold day so our first stop when we arrived was the Party House which is situated just up from the park entrance. Here you'll find everything from indoor rides for young children to an indoor jungle themed play area, a cinema for children playing classic cartoons and even an indoor sand pit. It's a great place to spend a while when the weather is cold, especially as there is a cafe area serving warm drinks and food. Perfect!
After a good hour or so in there we headed up the hill to grab some lunch. We also spied a little hut up in the 'Western World' which was offering a range of Halloween themed hot chocolates which of course, was something that I wasn't going to pass on! I parked my bum on a chair and enjoyed a delicious hot chocolate whilst Miss E enjoyed one of the many outdoor playgrounds. I must point out that this is another thing I love about Gulliver's, it isn't just rides. There are playgrounds, soft play areas, a variety of entertainment on offer and so much more!
We caught the chairlift down to the bottom of the park (seriously one of the scariest things I have ever been on, I blummin' hate chairlifts and cable cars!) and let kiddo run wild picking whatever rides she wanted to go on. She loves the pirate ship here which is just the right size for children.... not too fast and not too high. The view from this ride over Matlock Bath is spectacular though! Just like our last visit, we rode the pirate ship a fair few times!
We loved the Halloween touches dotted around the park. Pumpkins everywhere, Halloween decorations and even blood red water surrounding some of the attractions. Super spooky!
Halloween was everywhere in the park and we particularly loved the entertainment on offer throughout the day. We watched a mystic magic show down in Toyland, the end of day castle party in Lilliput Land and even followed the Swizzels sweets sponsored 'trick & treat' trail around the park. Here you could take part in different activities and earn sweeties along the way. Miss E loved the craft activities and making her own spooky spider at one of the points on the trail!
Once night fell in the park, the atmosphere changed and things got a little exciting (and spooky!). We rode the log coaster in complete darkness, greeted by the operator who was dressed as the grim reaper holding up a lantern. Kiddo loved it! Honestly, I loved the staff interaction throughout the park.... they really, really love their visitors and their interaction with guests was nothing short of fantastic!
After a few more rides, we decided to head back up the hill and find a good spot near the castle ready for the fireworks bonanza. It was a chilly evening and we entertained ourselves with a bundle of goodies purchased from the sweet shop at the entrance whilst we waited for the display to begin.
The display began just around 5:30pm if I remember rightly.... it's a perfect time for young children as it's not too late and doesn't keep little ones waiting out in the cold. The fireworks were accompanied by a show and music which made for a super engaging experience. We loved the whole experience and the display made for a fantastic end to a magical day. Perfectly seasonal and such a wonderful day out for the whole family! We will certainly be back at some point in the future, i'm sure!
