Mortgage busting

This morning we had a letter from the bank notifying us that our current mortgage deal was coming to an end. The next payment we make will be significantly lower than we've paid in the four years that we have lived in this house. If there's one thing that makes me happy about our decision to stay put and not move, it's this!

Our decision to overpay the mortgage has been more liberating than I could have hoped for. This is the third time we have reduced our payments in just a couple of years. It's a little bit of freedom and it has really motivated me to keep up with a pursuit of a more simple life. One that focuses on experiences and the people around me rather than owning the right *stuff*, being further up the same postcode and owing more to the bank.

So, very soon we'll be focusing on starting a little home refurbishment which will start at the top of the house. I'm currently eyeing up all kinds of bits and bobs to make this home 'our own' including gunmetal column radiators, suitable storage and lighting. I'll definitely be sharing both plans and progress on here shortly!
