Kids Movie Afternoon Essentials

I might have mentioned this once or twice here recently but at the grand age of just-turned-2, Miss E has decided that it might be time to start dropping those glorious afternoon naps. We're still clinging onto them for as long as we can but the days where she doesn't want to rest, we now have an extra few hours to keep her entertained!

We're definitely a family who like to get out and get stuff done in the morning so when late afternoon rolls around and we've exhausted every last play-doh/craft/jigsaw option in the house, sometimes it's lovely to just snuggle up and watch a movie together. With this in mind, I thought it would be fun to put together a list of my essentials for a perfect kids movie afternoon.

So firstly, there's no better place to start than the actual screen you're watching movies on! A good television will undoubtedly enhance the whole movie watching experience. We're currently looking shopping around for a new TV and I'm rather enchanted by the Panasonic Viera range of '4k TV' televisions. Described as 'the future of television', 4k TV is the latest technology that provides you with four times the screen resolution of Full HD. Crystal-clear clarity and impressively lavish detail, even when looking at non television content such as your own photographs? I'm completely sold!
Panasonic have a page on their website illustrating the difference between 4k Ultra HD and HD along with so do hop over and take a look for yourself. It looks amazing!

Once you've got the screen sorted, it's time to choose something to watch. Like her mummy, Miss E is a huge Disney fan and we like nothing better than snuggling up to watch a bit of Frozen or Lilo and Stitch (her current favourites!). I'm old school and have the biggest Disney DVD library but I'd love to jump into the 21st century one day and sign up to a service such as Netflix or Amazon Instant Video to expand our range of things to watch. Both of these services offer a range of 4k content and I'd love to see the difference between that and the quality I'm used to!

Watching a movie with a toddler isn't always the most relaxing experience, but it is super fun nonetheless! With this in mind, I still like to attempt to get a bit cosy especially if the weather is dreary outside so comfy clothes and a blanket are a must for Miss E and she also likes to choose a few soft toys who will watch a movie with us.

And finally, you can't do movies without snacks. Am I right or am I right?! To be honest I like nothing better than naughty snacks such as popcorn or nachos but this isn't the best idea when you're trying to entertain a toddler and not get them too full before their tea! We tend to go for small snacks of chopped fruit or raisins. Also, dried/raw fruit snacks such as Yu! mango fruit stars and Nakd bars always go down well in our house so it's good to have a stash of them in the cupboard for occasions like this!

So there we have my essentials for a lazy kids afternoon movie session. What would you say your essentials are? Let me know in a comment below!

  1. I'd say these are essentials for any any lazy afternoon, not just one for the kids ;)

  2. I absolutely love a kids movie afternoon, especially when it gets closer to Christmas and Joe chooses the films.
