Bank Holiday Bacon Butties!

Oh, hey there September! August seemed to fly by so quickly and the bank holiday that finished the month was a classic British washout with heavy rain almost all day. We spent the morning at our favourite local garden centre and after getting thoroughly soaked walking the dog in the local park we decided it was time to head home and make some lunch. I fancied bacon butties as it was the perfect chance to crack open a bottle of the brand new 'Purple Sauce' that hotel chain Premier Inn recently released.

I jumped at the chance to try out this sauce at home* as I am already such a fan of Premier Inn, we use their hotels so much for short stays and holiday stopovers. Not going to lie, the biggest reason we stay though is for the amazing breakfasts!

The sauce has been expertly crafted by chef Ed Baines and has been designed to 'shake up' the hotel chain's already amazing breakfast menu. The base consists of blackberry which gives it that lovely natural 'purple' colour and is beautifully balanced with cracked black pepper, crushed chillies, toasted cumin and smoked salt.

I cooked up some lovely smoked bacon in a little paprika to give it extra flavour along with some juicy vine ripened tomatoes and plonked it all into a seeded bread roll. The purple sauce was absolutely the perfect finishing touch, very zingy and a refreshing change to the usual sauce suspects! Delicious!

I must admit, the words 'purple sauce' do sound a bit horrifying but the bottle has absolutely no artificial colours or flavourings in there and the subtle purple shade reflects reflect the blackberry base of the sauce. It's also suitable for vegetarians which is always a huge plus point. I can see it proving to be hugely popular with Premier Inn guests and I'm looking forwards to using it in a few different recipes as the taste is just wonderful.

The sauce is only available in Premier Inn hotels for a limited 6 month period. I'm very much looking forwards to hopefully try it with my Premier Inn breakfast when I next stay with them in just a few weeks!

Have you tried Premier Inn's 'Purple Sauce' yet? And what is your favourite breakfast condiment? Let me know in a comment!

* I was sent this item to review but all words are my own.

  1. I've not had this but it sounds lovely! I have to admit I can't have bacon without a bit of good old HP sauce! Perfect!

  2. Mmm, I have never had it but it sounds lovely. At first I was a bit put off by the whole...purple thing. BUT, I do feel really hungry now, there's a Premier Inn just up the road from me so maybe I will give it a go. Ray xx
