Last weekend I was lucky enough to be one of thirty bloggers invited to the City Girls launch event for an afternoon of pizza, chatting and pampering. It was the first blog event that I had ever attended and I wasn't quite sure what to expect but I can safely say that it was an amazing day and I feel so lucky to have been invited.
You might have seen #TheCityGirls being mentioned on twitter and instagram over the past few weeks and wondered what it was all about. Lorna and Holly are the friendly faces behind it all and their aim is to host more events like this across the UK in the future, getting bloggers and brands meeting and working together in the best possible way!
The launch event was held in a beautifully decorated private function room upstairs at Bloo88 - a venue right in the heart of Sheffield city centre, famous for its cocktails and delicious handmade pizzas. If you know me then you'll know that anything involving pizza gets top marks in my books!
The event was run in conjunction with City Hearts, a fantastic Sheffield based charity who work hard to help support the victims of human trafficking. After the introduction speeches from Lorna and Holly, we were introduced to Amber from the City Hearts who did a great job of raising awareness for the charity, explaining the wonderful work they do and providing examples of the types of cases they deal with.
Later on in the afternoon there was a raffle for the charity which raised £175 (this amount was also matched by Aviva totalling £350!). It was one of my highlights of the afternoon and was for such a great cause.
After the speeches we were free to mingle and so with cocktail in hand (mojito, always!) we headed off to explore everything on offer....
My first stop was Benefit who were treating bloggers to a bit of pampering and more information about their products. I was super impressed by the POREfessional product when it was tested out on me so I was pleasantly surprised to find that a small version of the product was included in the Benefit goody bag which was handed out! I'll definitely be using that over the next few weeks and seeing how I get on with it.
Next up was the lovely ladies from Lush who were busy demonstrating how some of their products were made and promoting the votes for animals campaign. Lush are my absolute favourite bath/beauty brand and I was so pleased to see them at this event! They helped me pick out a few goodies to take home including a gorgeous cinnamon scented solid shampoo bar. I've been using it ever since and I can't stop sniffing my hair, it's gorgeous!
Every last detail was so beautifully thought out at the event. Everywhere you looked there was something really special, from cupcakes and balloons to vintage teacups piled up with traditional sweets, good old Hendersons relish (a Sheffield institution, I have it on everything!) and teeny tiny bottles of Penhaligon's perfume for bloggers to take their favourite. I opted for Malabah as it's one I haven't tried before. It's a great little size for taking on holiday so I'm saving mine for that!
Cinnamon Bun Designs was the next stall I visited. They are a local company specialising in adorable bespoke prints.
In addition to this was Secondthread (who I unfortunately didn't get round to visiting as we ran out of time!) and one of my highlights of the day, Panache. The lovely Zehra was busy all afternoon measuring the girls up for new bras. Since having Miss E, I haven't gotten round to being fitted (#busymumproblems) and I was stunned to find out the size I thought I was is completely wrong! I really love their range for curvy girls and can't wait to try out their products.
Finally, Voss were present at the event keeping everyone hydrated with their artesian water packaged in ridiculously stylish bottles and Virtue with their delicious natural ice teas.
Half way through the afternoon we were led downstairs to the bar area where we found tables laid out with delicious pizzas for all of the bloggers to share, an amazing treat! They were pretty damn good and definitely gave me my much needed pizza fix for the week (I love pizza, have I said that already?!).
Afterwards there was time for a bit more mingling and speaking to the brands then it was time for the raffle to be drawn. There were so many prizes varying from Sheffield cookbooks and perfume to a beautiful Thomas Sabo necklace generously sent out by the lovely Silver Tree Jewellery. I was very lucky to come away from the raffle with a gorgeous little stationary set from Youse.
At the end of the event we were all presented with a huge goody bag absolutely crammed to the top with some amazing products. It was so generous and genuinely felt a bit like Christmas when I got home and saw what was actually inside! I'll save the goody bag for another post though as I'd love to go through some of my favourites!
