A Pug's Guide to Dating....

I received a copy of "A Pug's Guide to Etiquette" by illustrator and fellow Pug lover Gemma Correll back in February for my birthday. Each page is laugh-out-loud hilarious and the book provides a completely accurate portrayal of my favourite wotsit-scented rotund creature! The only problem is, the book isn't long enough! So when I was contacted by CICO Books asking if i'd like to review the brand new companion book "A Pug's Guide to Dating", it was an offer that I could not refuse!

Here's the blurb from the back of the book....

"The course of true love never did run smooth. Littered with obstacles, from the exquisite pain of unrequited puppy love to the end of a loving, toy-sharing relationship, a pug must learn to skillfully navigate these hurdles while keeping his head high and his tail tightly curled.

Gemma Correll, illustrator and pug ambassador, observes in a series of 50 charming cartoons the challenges that face today's young pugs in their valiant quest for everlasting love."

The book aims to guide young pugs through the minefield of modern dating and the collection of 50 charming entries are neatly divided up into chapters giving advice on every subject from those important first impressions to dating and from celebrating special occasions and what to do if it all goes pear-shaped.

how to handle rejection and placing personal ads....

Gemma Correll seems to confirm my belief that all pugs act exactly same and after reading every page I found myself exclaiming 'That is Elsie!" and 'Elsie does that'!

Even though every page was a joy to read, the chapter on the subject of relationships is probably my favourite part of the book, especially the insanely cute 'Love is' illustrations. This chapter also covers everything from how to keep things exciting like trying "new positions in bed such as the pillow licker/the pillow farter".....

and keeping the romance alive....

The couple that.... chin rests together, sunbathes together, head tilts together .... stays together.

I'm also rather fond of the poetry in the romance chapter, it did make me giggle!

"Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
If I sniff your bum,
will you sniff mine too?"

This book is the kind of book that will remain proudly on my coffee table for quite some time, it is great for a giggle! I really enjoyed reading it and it is a fabulous follow up to the first book!

It goes without saying that this book is a must have for any pug owner but it would also make a great gift for any serial dater too. I think we could all take a thing or two from the relaxed and carefree attitude of the pug!

A Pug's Guide to dating retails for £9.99 and can be purchased from the Ryland Peters and Small website.

  1. adorable is that?! i need this in my life too!

  2. I always thought my pug was unique in her behaviour... but then I noticed that all pugs are just as original in their own way ;)
