Our Dining Room Dresser....

When we moved into our house we were left with a rather ugly but utterly functional built in dresser in the dining room. Here's a picture of what it looked like before.... dark, glossy and in need of a lot of TLC!

A few weeks ago I got to work by giving it a good clean then sanded it all down and painted it to make it brighter and more of a usable piece of furniture. The paint we chose was Farrow & Ball's "Strong White" which is a lovely cool, crisp shade with no yellow undertones. The colour  really complements the grey (Farrow & Ball's "Skimming Stone") that we put on the walls.

I ordered a bunch of white cup hooks from eBay to display our tea sets along with our glassware and the rest of the case is devoted to our favourite Cornish treasures. From ceramics and postcards to shells and driftwood collected from our favourite beaches, each piece has a lovely memory and I adore seeing them on display each day!

I painted the insides of the cupboards at the bottom in a lovely green blue to act as a contrast to the white, this useful storage area gives us easy access to most of our Yankee Candle collection now.

Here are some photographs of how it looks at the moment. Plenty of space has been left for future treasure hunting in Cornwall!

  10. Hello beautiful Rebecca, Your dresser looks gorgeous! The difference is truly amazing! I looked at the before photo, and I have a dresser the same wood color and I want to paint it white!!!! :) Your treasures stand out so well. Mine are difficult to see because it is so dark. I love all of your treasures and you have them displayed beautifully! It is wonderful you and your hubby collect things on your trips to Cornwall sweetie. You both will have so many happy memories when you look at them! Your lovely dishes look perfect there and the hooks were just the thing. I loved seeing all of your gorgeous photos. I love all of the stuffed animals too... and the crochet! Thank you for the inspiration. Have a beautiful week! Love, Paula xoxo
